How do you sand a wall?

If you want a smoothly painted wall, you must first ensure that the wall itself is smooth. Before applying the paint, the wall must first be sanded, so that the surface is smooth and not with unevenness. Sanding the walls by hand is a time-consuming and also physically intensive job. That is why machines are almost always used for sanding walls, including wall sanders.

There are various reasons for sanding a wall. For example, it may happen that you no longer like the color of a wall. Before you apply a new color to the wall, it must first be smoothed by sanding the surface. Nowadays, sanding a wall does not necessarily mean that you have to hire a professional to do this job. Different types of sanders are available, which can also be used for the less experienced handyman. Every machine is specialized in sanding a certain surface.

Most sanders are easy to use. At most DIY stores, high-quality sanders are offered at a reasonable price. Buying such a machine saves you a lot of time and effort, and also ensures amazing results. Of course it can happen that a wall has suffered (slight) damage over the years. In most cases you can do little about this yourself. However, many people think it is ugly if a wall is not pretty even anymore.

It is of course also possible that a new wall has been placed. This wall is usually not smooth on its own at the time of delivery, so a sanding is necessary. In short, it is always handy to have a sander in the house when this type of problem occurs.

Which sander to choose?
For the somewhat larger sanding jobs, such as sanding a wall, sanders offer a solution in particular. It is of course also possible to sand surfaces by hand. However, in many cases it is a lot more practical to be in possession of an sander. For example, if you need to sand a wall or ceiling, it is not advisable to do this by hand. Just think about the amount of time required. In addition, a sander has now been developed for each specific sanding job.

Sanding a wall, how do you start?
Filling irregularities If you have the right device and you have a wall that you want to sand, it's time to get started. Yet it is not intended that you immediately start sanding. After all, some preparations must first be made. For example, it is extremely important that you ensure that the wall is clean and dry. The wall is then in an optimum condition for sanding. In addition, it is important to remove protruding and sharp things from the wall and to fill deep holes in the wall with a filler.

There are of course a number of different filler brands. The filler must be smoothed with a roller and a special iron after application. Do not wait too long before smoothing out the filler. It is generally advised to do this within 30 minutes of application. So make sure that you do not apply too much filler at once. After all, the surface must be smoothed out within 30 minutes. Now it may be that there are still small bumps, after going through the previous steps. Don't worry about this; in most cases these irregularities can easily be remedied with hand sanding paper.

After cleaning the wall and fixing the unevenness (with filler), you are ready to start sanding the wall. After sanding you can possibly start painting the wall.
